Why Portland ?
It has long been known by residents and frequent visitors that Portland, Oregon is in a unique geographic location. Within an hour and half drive of Portland, we have access to a tremendous number of outdoor recreation activities, both passive and active;

- The Columbia River Gorge has become one of the premier wind surfing capitals of the world.
- The Oregon Coast has several hundred miles of pristine and stunning beaches. From the flat, wide beaches of the north coast to the high, windswept bluffs of the south there exists some of the best surfing and kiting opportunties on the west coast of the US. While the water is cold, the temperature remains relatively constant year round allowing for surfing in all seasons if you bring a wetsuit (or have a high tolerance for cold water).
- Central Oregon has a temperate climate and has some of the most stunning scenery in this part of the world. Crater Lake is a short trip from Bend, Oregon, which provides a wide variety of outdoor recreations such as golf, kayaking, hiking, and camping.
- Mount St. Helens, the only active volcano in North America, is a short drive from Portland, and provides tremendous hiking, educational, and site-seeing opportunities.
- Mt. Hood is the only ski mountain in North America to remain open year round and has become the premier summer-time training facilities in North America.
- The Willamette and Columbia Rivers, along with the Rogue, Clackamas, Salmon, Deschutes,Owyhee, Umpqua, Santiam, Grande Ronde, Upper John Day, Lower John Day and McKenzie rivers, provide a wide variety of kayak and whitewater rafting opportunities from beginner to professional athlete.
Even with all of these great outdoor resources, often times the climate can play havoc with our ability to enjoy them. Let’s face it; Portland is rainy. Very. Because we are located in a very central location to all of this recreation, there is a natural opportunity to provide year round training and indoor facilities for many of the sports that utilize these outdoor environments. With the redevelopment of the Rose Quarter continuing to be an important political issue, as well as a tremendous urban planning opportunity, Adam Wagner has decided now was perfect time to put forth a vision that has been stewing in his head for more than 10 years: A new Portland Action Sports Complex and Resort, integrated into the Rose Quarter District.
